FAQs – Postdoctoral Applicants

The Abortion Care Training Incubator for Outstanding Nurse Scholars (ACTIONS) program is an innovative program that seeks to connect, mentor, and support pre-and post-doctoral scholars looking to pursue a PhD at University of California San Francisco (UCSF). The program provides funding for pre- and post-doctoral scholars to increase both the number of trainees and the capacity of scholars to design studies that prioritize reproductive justice as the primary approach to reproductive health services provision, including abortion, birth, contraception, healthy sexuality, parenting and pleasure. We are looking for scholars who are enthusiastic and passionate about transformational change toward reproductive justice. This program provides a unique opportunity to train the next generation of thought leaders and change agents in nursing leadership and faculty positions around the country.

Candidates are eligible if they have completed any one of the following:

• Nursing degree with completed doctoral training (e.g., PhD, DNP)
• PhD, ScD or DrPH in biomedical or social sciences

Postdoctoral fellows cannot hold concurrent active faculty positions.

Applications open November 1 and reviewed on a rolling basis until all the positions are filled. To be considered in the first round of applications, please submit by December 15^th. Postdoctoral appointments begin on July 1.

Funding is for two years, with opportunities for renewal.

Competitive salary with benefits, travel funds, professional development funds.

Typically two postdoctoral scholars per year.

ACTIONS scholars may choose whatever methodology best suits their research focus. They will have access to have faculty mentorship across the UCSF campus.

Staff are based in the School of Nursing at UCSF. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, postdoctoral scholars accepted in 2021 will be permitted to work remotely for the duration of their appointment.
