Program Components

ACTIONS program requirements are grounded in achieving the aims of our mission. Therefore, it is important to be very clear with scholars that we are looking to develop nurse leaders and faculty that will seed important nursing institutions around the country.

  1. Prospective ACTIONS predoctoral scholars must first be admitted to the SON and must complete and be accepted into the ACTIONS program separately.

  2. Scholars must have a commitment to out loud abortion advocacy and research. 

  3. Society of Family Planning Junior Fellowship application completed prior to January 31 deadline for ALL scholars.

  4. Commitment to and passion for abortion research (i.e., evaluation of impact of SB320 – medication abortion expansion at California campuses; medication abortion provision by nurses; scope of practice expansion for abortion provision; procedural sedation). Dissertation or research while in the program to be focused on abortion in the US context.

  5. Expressed desire for leadership in nursing administration and commitment to accepting a or faculty position in a school of nursing in an area without active abortion-focused nurse scholars.

  6. Active participation in Works in Progress; brown bags, and public presentations.

  7. Teaching in person, online, and guest lectures in abortion around the country.

  8. Development of one video lecture or voice over for Innovating Education in Reproductive Health (i.e., evidence-based telephone triage, patient selection in abortion care; procedural sedation).

  9. Regular participation in nursing scholarship (OpEd, Fact Sheet, Infographic).

  10. Join the Scholars Strategy Network during first year of the program.
